Walking holidays in South West Scotland
We are an ideal base for a walking holiday in Scotland, in the centre of the ever varied countryside of Dumfries and Galloway, we are uniquely placed to offer the walker and cyclist a choice of memorable routes, whether it be a part of the Southern Upland Way or a gentle route commencing from the Hotel grounds.
Walkers can explore the heritage of the covenanters, seventeenth century Protestants outlawed by King Charles II, by following routes that start from the Hotel grounds. The covenanters graveyard is a three and a half mile circular walk or for the more adventurous Chrichope Linn is a six and a half mile walk through a dramatic sandstone gorge used by the covenanters as an escape route from King James army.
A walking holiday in Scotland is all about exploring the wild hills, and the Dalveen pass just ten minutes drive has striking scenery and a dramatic walk to the summit of Lowther Hill and Wanlockhead.
Also the Southern Upland Way can be reached by a short journey to Penpont for two circular walks which take in the beautiful scenery of the southern uplands.
But Walking holidays in Scotland are also about the gentler side of the countryside with beautiful riverside walks minutes from the Hotel, and Dramatic Cliff top walks along the Solway just a short distance away.
Whilst many more routes await guests including a hill top walk around Crawick Multiverse, an amazing series of landscape sculptures just 20 minutes from the Hotel, or The Dramatic Grey Mare’s Tale – a series of Waterfalls stretching several hundred feet up into the hills.
At Trigony you will be able to relax and explore the countryside at your leisure. And we can provide everything you need from walk books and local maps to packed lunches.
